The Budget Review Committee assists the Treasurer in preparing and reviewing the annual budget, and recommends updates to financial Bylaws where appropriate. The committee, Chaired by the Treasurer, consists of three other Executive Board Members and three Members-at-large and meets as needed.

Bylaw Committee

Committee Chair – Nadine Walters

The Bylaws committee is responsible for the maintenance of the Local’s Bylaws. This committee also provides the necessary communication to the membership pertaining to the Bylaws including but limited to proposed amendments.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide Toronto Education Workers/Local 4400 with current and updated Bylaws that are pertinent,
  • Communicate information regarding local’s Bylaws.

 

Update bylaws so that they are reflective of the CUPE Constitution.

Make every effort to Provide reasonable, easy to read and understand guidelines or documents that are pertinent to the Local’s objectives and goals.

Respond to All inquiries or requests by the Local’s Board or membership in a timely and objective manner.

Meet on a regular basis.

Education Committee

Committee Chair – Daniel Balthazar

The Education Committee is responsible for providing informational sessions and professional development training for members. Throughout the school year, the committee plans, organizes, and facilitates workshops on pertinent topics that support members professionally and personally. The Committee collaborates with the greater communities to address social inequities.

The Committee meets monthly and possibly more to prepare for special events.

Equity Committee

At Toronto Education Workers/Local 4400, Equity means fair treatment, Accessibility, and Opportunities for all Members. We address Systemic Inequalities and ensure everyone has the support they need to succeed.

We promote Equity & Diversity in all our workplaces and advocate for fair policies in hiring, promotions, benefits, and working conditions, regardless of background!

We offer training sessions on Equity and Inclusion and push our employer to do the same. We support Diverse Leadership and initiatives for representation within Union Leadership.

We engage with Community Organizations and Politicians to tackle broader social Injustices. Feedback from Members informs our actions and policies, helping to create a more Equitable environment and strengthening our Union’s Vision & it’s Mission!!

Executive Elections Committee

We are responsible for the Elections of the Executive Officers & Steward Coordinators.

The committee begins working on the election process 6 months before the actual elections. If there is a vacancy during the term of office the Elections Committee conducts a by-election.

Health and Safety Committee

Committee Chair – Jason Ramsay

The Health and Safety Committee is responsible for ensuring that the Toronto District School Board is in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act along with other forms of relevant legislative requirements such as Public Health measures and Building Code Standards.

The Committee works together with Health and Safety Representatives from other employer bargaining units within the Local to provide assistance and training where needed.

Through the year the Committee meets monthly except in the months of July and August to discuss health and safety related issues and provide reports on the various topics, including but not limited to: Workplace Inspections, Violence in the Workplace and Joint health and Safety Committee Meetings.

Pension Committee

The Pension Committee shall be responsible for:

Enhancing member awareness about pension and retirement issues through effective communication and educational initiatives.

b) Supporting and implementing decisions made by the General Membership and Executive Board regarding pension matters.

WSIB Committee

Committee Chair – May Smith

This Committee attempts to ensure that members of the Committee are acquainted with, trained in and knowledgeable of WSIB, LTDI, CPPD and Return to Work so they are able to adequately perform their duties of supporting and representing CUPE 4400 members. To assist in educating members in WSIB, rights and obligations and related issues. To continue to learn, cooperate and share our knowledge and experiences as a Committee to expand and develop our skills in our roles.

Promote members health and safety, safe and suitable return to work, accommodation and accessibility through WSIB’s programs and services. To attend return to work meetings, assessments, etc. to represent members with WSIB and the employer. To reach out and support members who have experienced WSIB Lost Time Injuries in the Workplace and support with paperwork, accommodations, return to work and the employer on related issues. To support and advocate for Injured members and their rights in the workplace, union, government. and society.

To assist and guide members through the CPPD and LTDI process and related issues. To identify and represent members with any violation of members rights by the employer through filing grievances and appeals as they relate to WSIB, CPPD and LTD and all related matters.

Social Committee

The Social Committee is responsible for:

  1. arrange and conduct all social, cultural and recreational activities of the Local including Labour Day, Winter Holiday party and a Picnic either on the Committee’s own initiative or as a result of decisions taken at General Membership Meetings.
  2. Submit reports and proposals to the Executive Board or to the Membership as required.
